Wouldn’t we all love to own a new Shelby GT500? It is a dream of many Mustang fans, but these elite machines — be they vintage classics or the current modern marvels — command princely sums that exceed the budget of many.
Of course, these cars make us feel like kids, but whether your inner kid or progeny has an interest in a GT500, you can build one for yourself thanks to Lego’s Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Technic kit.
Designed for kids 9-years or older, which includes those of us who are still kids at heart, this kit lets amateur engineers build a Shelby GT500 from 544 pieces. When complete, this Shelby is no static showpiece, however. It features onboard motivation, which allows car builders to drag-race their finished project cars. Moreover, you can use the Lego Augmented Reality app, to expand play into another dimension.
“The immersive build gives kids a great introduction to engineering – but that’s just the start!” says Lego. “Using the two pull-back motors, kids can send the toy car racing. Use the AR app to take the play experience to the next level with a host of exciting, augmented reality features.”
While it is pretty cool that you can build your own Shelby GT500 and race it in an augmented reality environment, the best part is that this project car build is far more affordable than picking up a full-size Shelby GT500. You can grab the LEGO Technic Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 kit for $49.99 right HERE.
